Security Officer Heroes: Keith Rosedom’s Quick Action Saves a Life

As the nation’s leading private security guard training provider, we at Top Gun understand and appreciate the skills, courage, and dedication it takes to be an effective security professional. Every day across our nation, trained professional security guards protect the people, property, and resources that are the lifeblood of our nation. We think it is important to recognize the contributions these private security personnel are making by regularly featuring these heroes and their brave actions.

Keith Rosedom, a security guard at Westhill High School in Stamford, Connecticut, is just such a hero. His quick actions and professionalism helped him prevent the serious injury of a visitor to the school on May 8, 2021.

While monitoring the parking lot of Westhill High School as after-school sports were being played on the back fields, his alert eye noticed something out of place: a car slowly rolling backwards, with a man standing behind it trying to unsuccessfully keep it from rolling away. Mr. Rosedom jumped from his security vehicle and ran to the man and car, just as the struggling man fell under the vehicle and it began to run him over. Rosedom, with the assistance of a student passing by, was able to stop the vehicle before it crushed the victim and caused serious injury.

Had Rosedom not been alertly surveying the parking lot and actively interacting with his environment as we teach in our training course, he would have missed the critical first seconds of this situation, which could have been the difference between life and death.

As reported in the Patch, for his quick action and professionalism, Rosedom was recognized by the Stamford Public Schools Board of Education. The Associate Superintendent for School Development, Olympa Della Flora, said,

“We are extremely thankful that Keith was in the right place at the right time and was able to move and think swiftly to avoid a potential accident where someone could have been hurt. We appreciate his dedication to his job to provide safety and security but also his dedication to the community at large.”

Rosedom was humble in accepting the honor, saying “It’s a good feeling, but it’s not really a big deal. I was just reacting. It happened so fast.”

At Top Gun, we understand the challenging nature of security work, and the critical need for training so security personnel are always at the ready to react to whatever situation comes their way, usually without warning. Keith Rosedom is a shining example of how a trained, professional security guard can be the difference between tragedy and well-being.
